Email and social media seem to be locked in an eternal debate about which is better for marketing purposes (spoiler alert: it’s email). But just because the two are at odds with each other doesn’t mean you can’t leverage social media to bolster your email program. And, no, Pokémon GO doesn’t count as social media, so it won’t be featured here.
Twitter is a fast moving social media platform. Actually tweeting to gain subscribers can be tricky, but it’s definitely doable. So while actually tweeting out a link to your email signup on a regular basis is something to keep in mind, you may also want to consider promoting that message instead. You can also pin a post about email signup on your page for those that actually visit it.
Another option is to take advantage of Twitter’s lead gen cards. These make it easy for your followers to sign up for things via Twitter by pre-populating the necessary fields once they click the CTA.
Same as Twitter, it’s always good to program promoted and normal subscriber signup posts into your Facebook schedule. Facebook also has a widget you can set up that will allow you to drive your followers to an email registration page of your choosing.
It’s pretty easy to set up. If you don’t have one in place already, there should be an option on your brand’s Facebook page that says “Create Call To Action.” Once you click it, you should go to a page like this:
Set it all up, click save, and you’re done. Easy.
Reddit is an avenue that’s going to require a little bit of work, but can be worth it in the end. First, we need to stress that it’s easy to get lost in reddit, and end up in just a really awful place.
So make sure you pick your forums carefully. They should be aligned with what your brand promotes and sells, and they should be — and we can’t stress this enough — be somewhat void of internet trolls.
Once there, you don’t jump right in and start spamming the forum with your subscriber call-outs. Take some time to get to know the forum regulars, immerse yourself in the group, and then, once you feel comfortable, ask if people will sign up for your emails.
Easy to do, and it has the added bonus of getting to know other people in your industry and getting some valuable insight. But, again, choose wisely.
