Welcome back to our ongoing series breaking down the email campaigns of the presidential hopefuls. We took a break last week because we wanted to expand the race.
We signed up for Gary Johnson’s emails, and wanted to give a little time for his emails to catch up to everyone else’s. So, how does the third-party candidate stack up?
Well, that’s not exactly true. We did get a thank you message:
And it actually doesn’t look bad. Simple, clean, to the point — clear call to action to follow the campaign on social media, with every outlet included. No preference center or unsubscribe option, but, hey, that seems to be par for the course with these politicians.
But, yeah, after that initial email:
Moving on …
On the complete opposite end of the spectrum, the Clinton camp has been sending out emails like they actually want to win the election. Since the last time we talked on this subject (almost two weeks ago), we’ve received 32 emails from them. 32. And while we got the usual donation requests, the variety displayed was pretty refreshing. For instance, here’s an email received that was an incentive to provide a phone number to the campaign:
That’s a great way to collect phone numbers. Bonus points for the eye-grabbing, direct subject line, “Be the first to know Hillary’s VP.” We’ve also been getting actual informational emails from her campaign as well. And, the best part, they’re reactive. When Trump made his VP pick, we received this message:
Quick on the draw to be critical of Pence’s record and topical, this is a donation request done right. The campaign even gave their online shop some love by sending out a code for 20% off your purchase:
And they followed it up with a reminder to use the code before it expires. All in all, the Clinton campaign’s email game has gone way up. So where are we with The Donald?
But, at least now we have an explanation for it! Apparently there was an email sent June 21 — the result?
We wish we could say that we made this discovery on our own before this news came out, but, we didn’t. Why? Because after we saw this we went and checked our spam folder. And our trash folder. What did we find? (Spoiler alert: nothing. We’ll spare you the tumbleweed GIF again.)
And that’s also pretty alarming — not only did their first email go straight to subscribers’ spam folders, the message didn’t even make it there for another portion of their email list. Yikes.
For second time in a row, we’re giving it to Hillary.
